That's a fair question, and probably the most important one.
When I started building Valor AI, I wasn't just thinking like a developer. I was thinking like a veteran. I know how personal a DD214 is. It's more than a document, it's a record of everything you gave to this country. The idea of handing that over to a random startup does not sit right unless trust is earned.
Here's how we're earning it.
Veteran-Owned, Veteran-Built
Valor AI isn't a Silicon Valley project chasing a quick exit. It's a mission-first platform built by veterans, for veterans. I've gone through the system. I've been denied. I've felt the frustration and the weight of doing it all alone. This project was born out of that struggle. Every decision we make is filtered through one question: Would I trust this with my own file?
Strong Encryption and Access Controls
We use modern industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest. Files are stored on secure, access-controlled infrastructure, and we follow a least-privilege approach, meaning internal access to sensitive data is tightly restricted, role-based, and audited.
Your Data, Your Control
You can delete your data at any time. We do not sell your personal data. We only share data with service providers necessary to operate the platform, subject to contractual privacy safeguards. Valor AI's model is built on subscriptions, not data monetization.
No Third-Party Training
Customer-uploaded documents are not used to train our AI models. Unlike some platforms that quietly mine user data to improve AI, Valor AI's models are updated through structured, vetted legal and regulatory data, not your personal files.
Working Toward SOC 2 Readiness
Even if it's not yet legally required for a startup like ours, we're working toward SOC 2 readiness and building with safeguards that support protection of sensitive health-related information. Because your VA documents are medical information. And they should be treated with that level of care.
Transparency and Accountability
We're building Valor AI in the open. Veterans in our early user group help shape features, vet our decisions, and hold us accountable. You're not handing your data to a faceless app. You're trusting a veteran-built product that stays close to the people it serves.
Why This Matters
I know what happened with companies like 23andMe. And that's why I take this so seriously. If Valor AI ever loses the trust of the people it was made for, it's over. That's the line I won't cross.
So no, I don't expect you to trust us just because I'm a vet or because the site looks polished. I expect to earn that trust, every step of the way.
And if we can't keep your data safe, we don't deserve to build this.
